Newcastle set for late decision on Alexander Isak availability
Hamstring issue leaves Toon sweating on fitness of new club-record signing
Isak, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for a reported fee of £60 million in August, has missed the last two matches with a hamstring injury.
The Sweden international is yet to make his full debut for the Magpies, but he is expected to be fit enough to feature in some capacity against Manchester City on Sunday.
However, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has admitted that he will make a late decision on Isak's availability.
"Alex has been training with the team this week and he is making good progress," Howe said. "But we will make a late decision on whether he is fit enough to play against Manchester City.
"He is a very important player for us and we would love to have him available, but we will not risk him if he is not 100% fit.
Isak's absence would be a blow to Newcastle, who have struggled for goals in recent weeks.
The Magpies have scored just one goal in their last three matches and have failed to win any of their last four games.
Manchester City, meanwhile, are in fine form and will be looking to extend their winning run to five matches when they travel to St James' Park.
The reigning Premier League champions have won their last four matches in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and conceding just one.
Newcastle will need to be at their very best to get anything from the game, but they will be hoping that Isak can make a difference if he is fit enough to play.
