Tragedy struck Highway 401 in Whitby, Ontario, late Monday night when a fiery crash claimed the lives of four people, including an infant. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has confirmed the deaths, which occurred after a police pursuit of a driver ended in disaster.
The crash, which also involved a wrong-way vehicle, closed the highway in both directions near Highway 412. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that the collision occurred between Brock Road and Thickson Road.
Initial reports suggest that the pursuit began in the City of Toronto before spilling onto Highway 401. The circumstances surrounding the pursuit and the crash are currently under investigation by the SIU.
