Bayern Munich Thrash Salzburg to Reach Champions League
Lewandowski Scores Hat-trick in 23 Minutes
Bayern Munich cruised into the Champions League quarter-finals with a 7-1 thrashing of Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday, with Robert Lewandowski scoring a hat-trick inside the opening 23 minutes.
The Poland striker took his tally in the competition to 11 goals this season, moving ahead of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in the race for the Golden Boot.
Bayern dominated from the start and Lewandowski opened the scoring with a tap-in from Thomas Muller's cross in the 12th minute.
He then doubled his tally with a header from Joshua Kimmich's delivery in the 18th minute, before completing his hat-trick with a stunning strike from outside the box in the 23rd minute.
Salzburg pulled one back through Junior Adamu in the 21st minute, but Bayern restored their three-goal lead when Serge Gnabry scored in the 31st minute.
Muller made it 5-1 in the 54th minute, before Sadio Mane and Jamal Musiala added further goals in the 83rd and 86th minutes respectively.
The victory was Bayern's sixth in a row in all competitions and extended their unbeaten run to 19 games.
