Princess Aiko Makes Her First Solo Trip to Ise Shrine

The future empress visited the shrine in Mie Prefecture to offer prayers for the well-being of Japan and its people

Princess Aiko, the only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, made her first solo trip to Ise Shrine in Mie Prefecture on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old princess, who is second in line to the throne, visited the shrine to offer prayers for the well-being of Japan and its people. She was accompanied by a small entourage of Imperial Household Agency officials.

Princess Aiko's visit to Ise Shrine is part of her preparations for her future role as empress. The shrine is one of the most important in Japan and is considered to be the home of the sun goddess Amaterasu, the mythical ancestor of the Japanese imperial family.

Princess Aiko's visit to Ise Shrine was also an opportunity for her to connect with her cultural heritage. The shrine is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Japan.
